Study in China
The name ‘China’ is a ubiquitous noun present in any discussion pertaining to global politics and in all discussions when talking about the global economy. China’s resurgent economic performance which took off after the economic reforms of 1978 to become one of the world’s fastest growing economies is something that has stunned the developed world. Covering a total land area of 3.7 million square miles with a population of 1.3 billion people, the People’s Republic of China is the world’s most populated country that is declared as a potential super power. The current nominal GDP of China stands at $ 11.8 trillion which ranks it as the world’s second largest in nominal GDP and first in purchasing power parity. The Chinese Communist Party has been the sole governing body of the country since it became a republic in October 1949.
Apart from this, China also has a long history dating back millennia. The Chinese civilization emerged as one of the world’s oldest civilizations in northern China along the basins of the yellow river. Until replaced by the Republic of China in 1912, the country’s political system was based on hereditary monarchies or dynasties. The Republic of China was ousted from power in 1949 in the Chinese civil war and China was unified under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party.
Beijing is the capital city of modern day China while Shanghai is the main economic city which is also the most populated city in the world. In addition to this Shanghai is a global financial centre and a global transport hub with the world’s busiest container port.
According to the World Bank, China reached all its Millennium Development Goals by 2015 and also contributed to the achievement of MDGs globally.
